Since having my first two daughters , I have been fascinated and in awe of Pregnancy, birth, babies and breastfeeding. It was such an empowering, vulnerable, exciting, and anxious time but one which enriched and changed me profoundly. I started training as a midwife in 1999 and had another baby halfway through in 2002 , thus gaining another wonderful daughter and some more valuable personal experience !

I have been a midwife for 14 years and have worked mainly in Labour Ward in St Johns Hospital but also occasionally at the Lothian Birth Centre. I have had lots of experiences with all types of people in all types of situations, and believe that everyone can, and should, have an autonomous, positive birth experience, no matter what their circumstances. I have found that a bit of support, patience and humour goes a long way in birthing babies ! I have recently moved to Community Midwifery and I am loving the continuity that brings for myself and the lovely families I meet.

A couple's journey through pregnancy and birth into parenthood is such a special time and I really do feel privileged to be a part of it. Supporting a woman's innate ability to birth and nurture, advocating her choices and keeping the experience hers is what midwifery is all about for me. The challenges I have taken on and the experiences I have gained have all been with this philosophy in mind.

Learning the Relax and Breathe Hypnobirth methods has been a deeply beneficial experience for me. I think it is the perfect tool for women and partners to enhance their journey from couple to family and also on a very personal level. I am really enjoying being able to share these techniques with parents and babies, and it has deepened my own appreciation of the wonders of the Human Mind and Body.
